Is there more to online games than fun?
Gaming has evolved the passed 20 years. I remember growing up in the 90s I had a Super Nintendo which was the most advanced console at the time but after a few months of playing a new game it would only working after giving the cartridge a few good blows to clean off the dust.
Today games have improved a great deal. The PS4 and xbox1 consoles connect straight to the internet where you can connect to thousands of gamers around the world.
Graphics on games now are very close to life like and there is such a large variety of games. Some genres consist of: shooter games, Role-playing, strategy, sports, Action RPG, Adventure and so many more.
The average age of gamers in Australia is 33years old.
There are a Action adventure games such as Assassin’s Greed which has actual historic events incorporated in to the game therefore allowing the user to learn fact of history while playing the game.
Sports games like NRL and FIFA test the gamers reflexes. Games in this genre test the user’s speed, timing and skill.
Role-playing games(RPG) like the Uncharted game series takes the gamer through a story where the user explores there curiosity and sense of adventure.
There are also games like Minecraft which is a combination of a few genres. Minecraft is a RPG, Adventure, action, strategy and educational game which allows the user to be adventurous and explore their environment for resources which they will collect to construct tools and buildings.
So as you can see online games are more than just fun. They take the user on an adventure from reality as they test speed, timing, skill and also can also teach the user a few interesting facts along the way.

ReplyDeleteHi Tevita,
ReplyDeleteI thoroughly enjoyed reading your blog as it highlights aspects of online games which are educational and develop individuals skills. Within, your blog you employed the use of statistics to provide evidence in relation to the average age of online game users. This was engaging and validated your statement.
Additionally, the use of examples within your blog was successful at demonstrating that games have a greater purpose than just fun and highlights how online games connects gamers universally.
However, you could consider referring to a reading such as the Q design Pack, which highlights how teachers can employ the use of online games to engage students which may encourage learning. This can be found on: https://cdn-educators.brainpop.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/07/IOP_QDesignPack_GamesandLearning_1.0.pdf. Furthermore, I would suggest editing some grammatical errors within your blog, this can be seen in your opening sentence as you should change ‘passed’ to ‘past’.
Kind regards,
Madeleine Clark
